Fearful flyers are often reassured by the thought that one is less likely to suffer injury while flying than while riding in a car. Now, according to “Ten Facts on Worldwide Patient Safety on the World Health Care Blog, an airplane is also a safer place to be than a hospital. Here’s number 9 on the list from the World Health Organization, shared by Fred Fortin:

Industries with a perceived higher risk such as aviation and nuclear plants have a much better safety record than health care. There is a one in 1 000 000 chance of a traveller being harmed while in an aircraft. In comparison, there is a one in 300 chance of a patient being harmed during health care.
